            There are many times when people did complicated things to the amazement of every observer. This is necessary once in a while but those who go far in real life are those who keep things simple. Living otherwise unnecessarily complicates life.

            Most things in real life are very difficult to understand because people try to make them complicated. The problem is that when things are complicated in this way they have a way of confusing the ones who made them complicated in the first place. This is because when you look at nature you will see all things, although difficult to understand sometimes, they remain simple.  Take the law of gravity for example. If you jump upwards you are pulled down by this force no matter whom you are. It is simple. You do not have to understand how the law of gravity works for you to see its effects. It is in its simplicity that everyone who tries to construct a building knows what to do to make sure the building does not collapse. Imagine if the force of gravity changed direction everyday. Most structures we have would be ruins by now.

            If you spend a long time without drinking water you feel thirsty. It does not matter who you are, the sensation of thirst will affect you until you drink water. This is a simple mechanism put in place to make sure that you do not die of dehydration. If you do not feel thirsty after a week without drinking water, you are most likely going to die because the body works best when there is water in your system. This is a simple principle that does not need to be understood by anyone. All you need to do is to drink enough liquids and you are safe.

            The laws of supply and demand are very simple indeed for anyone to understand. If there is too much supply there is a decrees in demand. If supply decreases, demand increases. It is this simplicity that governs the prices of commodities in the shops. Those who are tasked with pricing goods look at these factors before they can put a price on goods. It is the simplicity of these things that makes things workable everyday. If you want your life to be productive you have to keep things simple.

            The best soccer players in the world are usually talented enough to do things that most players cannot do but these are not done everyday.  A player can spend a whole minute dribbling past opponents but most players so talented choose to pass the ball to other players because that way they have energy to last the whole period of the game and it makes scoring possible. By keeping the game simple they become very relevant to the team.

            There are many players who choose to pass the ball when they can score themselves because they see another player in a better position to score. This simplifies things a lot and in simplifying things the team scores a goal. It does not matter how a goal is scored in a real match. It does not have to be a complicated goal to be counted. The team that applies the simple rules of passing, controlling the ball, going forward and making attempts at goal, will most likely win the game. There are times, once in a while, when a player has to use his individual tactics to make the team win. Otherwise these complex methods of doing things are not good for the team.

            Have you ever seen a player who does a trick so complex that even his team members cannot read the move? In that case the team does not benefit from the skills of the player. This is the reason why keeping things simple will make you progress because everyone can understand what is happening and respond accordingly.

            In our days at school there were those who wanted to be known as good English speakers who went on to sprinkle their compositions with big words. The problem was not necessarily in the big words themselves but most of them came from non-English speaking families, therefore, they did not know how to use these words correctly in a sentence. As a result they made mistakes that those who kept it simple never made. It was in trying to be complex that they made life difficult for themselves in the end. It was more profitable for them to be simple and score high marks instead of trying to be complicated and make a mistake in the process.

            As we enter the New Year, remember that when a task is completed it is not how complicated it was that matters but whether it is completed or not. It is better to be simple and complete the task than to be complicated and fail. If you keep it simple this coming year, leaving the complex for a few times when it becomes necessary, you will become a good team player because all the others can read your moves well. It does not pay most of the time to do things in a complicated way. Just keep it simple.
